What Do You Want?

Volunteering is a matter of give and take – and of balancing the two. By finding the opportunity that most closely matches your 'wish list', you'll be happier, more motivated and, consequently, more effective as a volunteer.

What do you want from your volunteering?

· Work experience or a complete change from work?
· A chance to practise your language skills?

· Contacts in a particular industry or country?

· More responsibility than you have at work, or some time with very little responsibility?

· A specialist role using your particular skills, or the chance to explore a broad range of challenges?

For more information about clarifying your objectives, register as an InterVolunteer.

List what you want from your project and try to stick to it. You may need to be flexible, but don't be talked into doing something that doesn't suit you. Knowing that your efforts are improving your future, as well as benefiting your hosts, will help keep you going through the inevitable tough times.
