There are thousands of opportunities to volunteer. In order to find the most appropriate one for you, you need to think about how you like to work.
You should already have identified your skills and objectives in the previous sections. Now ask yourself:
· What interests you?
· If you work best in a group or individually? · How hard are you prepared to work?
· When can you go and for how long?
· Where do you want to go? Which cultures can you adapt to?
· Can you really help without speaking the local language?

How much can you pay or fundraise?
Most organisations require some payment. Check what's included (such as insurance, food and accommodation). If your payment doesn't cover the full costs, where does the rest come from? And is it really best spent subsidising your trip rather than going directly to projects in communities much poorer than you? If the organisation is profit-making, are you really a volunteer or are you just being used as cheap labour? Or is it actually a holiday? The choice is yours, but be sure you know what you're choosing.
