Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) pays dividends. Supporting volunteering overseas is particularly relevant to multinational or global companies, but local companies also benefit. Volunteering creates good PR – sharing skills is more sustainable than throwing money at problems and makes for better photos too!

Sending staff to volunteer overseas is also cost-effective. While creating positive PR for your company, staff are also learning about another culture and developing skills such as managing on limited resources and teamworking. Better still, it can be done at a quiet time of year, perhaps on reduced pay – covering their expenses is usually cheaper than paying their salary.

You can also select destinations that will help to build corporate understanding of countries you export to or import from, that you already work with or hope to move into. With a better understanding of conditions overseas and local languages, you can cut out middle men and build Fairtrade agreements, which make a real difference to people's lives and generate further positive publicity.

For CSR at home and abroad, you could sponsor an underprivileged person from your local area, enabling them to develop their skills by volunteering overseas.
