Employers can maximise the development potential of volunteering overseas by evaluating performance against desired competences before and after the project, and supporting the volunteer with training and/or coaching.
InterVol, through Challenges Worldwide, offers structured placements incorporating individual management development assignments on challenging projects in developing countries. The package can be tailored to meet individual corporate needs and also includes a selection process to find the most appropriate opportunity for each candidate; training and coaching to support employees through their development; and an appraisal system to measure improvement.
Participants are confronted by their own strengths and weaknesses in unfamiliar circumstances. Success depends on adaptability and willingness to grow into a confident leader. Successful participants accept responsibility and use their initiative to collaborate, solve problems, influence, manage change, plan for uncertainty and manage projects with limited resources. |
The focus is on:
1. Leadership
2. Personal challenge
3. Self assessment and improvement
4. Global perspective
5. Sustainable development
6. Mutuality of benefit
