La Ruta Maya
Calum Robertson and Fiona Stevenson CWW Volunteers completed La Ruta Maya- the third longest canoe race in the world!
I entered the La Ruta Maya canoe race because I thought it would be a great experience, and that it was. It was the pre-race briefing that made us question what we were doing! The words “extreme endurance event” and “third longest canoe race in the world” I don’t feel go together with ‘fun’!!
Nevertheless, we were committed and my team and Calum reported back: I embarked on an experience of a lifetime. It was 170 miles of paddling along the Belize River for 4 days, camping at night time. It was tough, very tough, but the beautiful scenery and wildlife made it worthwhile. The highlight for me was seeing 3 dolphins 5 miles in from Belize city. It was mentally the toughest thing I have ever done, but something I will always remember, whilst hopefully the aches will fade with time!

Congratulations to both Fiona and Calum for taking part and completing La Ruta Maya! |
